From the Electric Marathon to open-source innovation
My path into the world of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure began with a truly unique event — the Electric Marathon. This was not just a rally across Europe; it was a statement about the future of sustainable transport. As part of the organizing team and working under the title of producer, I was responsible for helping modernize the concept of the event and ensure its successful execution together with my colleagues.
The Electric Marathon was a multi-day, pan-European journey designed to promote electric mobility by bringing together pioneers, visionaries, and enthusiasts. It followed in the spirit of the legendary Monte Carlo rallies, but with a strong focus on green technology and public awareness. Being involved in the organizational core of such an event gave me an insider’s view of early EV adoption, infrastructure challenges, and the global passion behind this movement.
This experience opened the door for everything that followed. It shaped my understanding of the market, connected me with key players, and ultimately became the launchpad for my next step — founding Vonk Technologies.
Founding Vonk Technologies
Pushing the boundaries of open EV charging infrastructure
In the years that followed, I founded Vonk Technologies, a company with a mission to simplify EV charging and make it accessible to all. One of our first and most ambitious projects was developing an open-source backend system based on the OCPP protocol — a move driven by a strong belief in openness, flexibility, and long-term sustainability in EV infrastructure.
As the founder and leader of Vonk, I helped grow the company from a bold idea to a functioning business. Three years after its founding, Vonk was acquired and is now run by a new team.
These two milestones — from organizing the Electric Marathon to building an open-minded backend EV charging platform — have deeply shaped how I see the future of mobility: collaborative, adaptable, and truly electrified.
