As global environmental issues intensify, each of us can contribute to positive change. But climate goals often feel ambitious, costly, and disruptive, leaving us wondering: in a world of over 7 billion people, how much can one small change in my lifestyle really matter? And where to start?
While stepping out of our comfort zones isn’t easy, even small adjustments can make a difference, especially when they become daily habits. Here’s a quick look at some of the steps we’ve taken, both at work and in personal life, to be a little greener each day:
Ringo Reusable Packaging: At our office, it’s common for one person to pick up lunch for the team. To our surprise, our local eatery has started using Ringo reusable containers. Now, we bring lunch back in these containers, return them the next day, and pick up our meal in a clean one. This small shift has practically eliminated packaging waste at our office. Ringo even offers a service to deliver food in returnable containers, which can be conveniently sent back—definitely a worthy initiative!
Portable Coffee Cup: My personal favorite is the ceramic thermal cup by Tass ja Topsik. It keeps my coffee tasting fresh without that metallic aftertaste, looks professional, and is versatile enough for grabbing a coffee at a gas station, using it in the office, or taking it to a client meeting.
Home Waste Sorting: At home, I restructured our waste system and started sorting waste with the family. This helps us monitor consumption—excess food waste points out that our shopping list needs adjusting. Reusable containers can also be taken to the store for bulk items, reducing disposable packaging. Sorting waste only works if proper bins are available nearby, though unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. Soon, Vonk will also become a role model in waste sorting!
Joining Green Dice: We partnered with Green Dice at Vonk to support tech reuse. Through this program, our high-quality computers serve a long life, moving on to new users who need them once they’re phased out at our company. This way, we ensure people can stay current with technology while reducing waste. When the time is right, each device is recycled properly, helping slow down the growth of landfills.
Results don’t happen overnight, but small steps can lead to noticeable change. Every little environmentally-friendly action gets us closer to our goals. And remember—it’s never too late to start making a difference. What steps have you taken for a cleaner life?
